Ways to Size, Prep, and Apply your Press On Nails!

Updated: May 20

Wanna know the best kept secret about wearing press on nails? It's not the glue!

The real secret to preventing press-on nails from popping off, is one 4 letter word: PREP

Whether you want your nails to stay on for a few hours, or a few weeks, prep is key. Follow my prep routine below for maximum staying power, regardless of the application you use!

How to Apply Press-Ons With Glue

  1. Gently push back your cuticles using the mini wooden cuticle stick provided.

  2. Use the mini file on smoothest side to gently rough up the surface of the nail.

  3. Remove any natural nail oil or dust from you nails using the alcohol wipe or alcohol on a lint free pad.

  4. Check the fit of the nails before gluing them on. If needed, gently file the press-ons a little at a time with the rougher side of the mini file to fit your nail better.

  5. Gently rough up the underside of the press on if it hasn’t already been done or if removing residue for reuse.

  6. Apply a small bead of glue to one nail. Then apply press on to your natural nail at a 45-degree angle (to avoid air bubbles) starting at the cuticle and rolling down slowly onto the remaining nail.

  7. Hold and press down slightly on the nail for 10-15 seconds.

  8. Repeat these steps with the other nails. (I recommend applying to your dominant hand first as once you have nails on your non-dominant it may be more difficult to apply).

  9. Try to avoid water and oil for 4 hours after applying to ensure longer lasting results

How to Apply Press-Ons With Tabs

  1. Gently push back your cuticles using the min wooden cuticle stick provided.

  2. If you have any natural nails that are longer than your finger tip, file or clip it down so it is even with your finger.

  3. Use the mini file on smoothest side to gently rough up the surface of the nail.

  4. Remove any natural nail oil or dust from you nails using the alcohol wipe or alcohol on a lint free pad.

  5. Check the fit of the nails before gluing them on. If needed, gently file the press-ons a little at a time with the rougher side of the mini file to fit your nail better.

  6. Gently rough up the underside of the press on if it hasn’t already been done or if removing residue for reuse.

  7. Find a tab that fits your nail making sure that it covers your nail plate leaving a slight space of natural nail showing around tab. You can cut the edges of the tab to fit if it's too wide. Remove ONLY the tab from the sheet leaving tab cover on. Place on nail NOT TOO CLOSE TO CUTICLE and hold for 15 to 20 seconds.

  8. Remove top tab cover and apply press-on to the nail, starting at your cuticle, holding press on at a 45-degree angle and (to avoid air bubbles) rock on press-on slowly to the remaining nail.

  9. Hold and press down slightly on the nail for 15 to 20 seconds.

  10. Repeat these steps with the other nails. I recommend applying to your dominant hand first as once you have nails on your non-dominant it may be more difficult to apply.

  11. Try to avoid water and oil for 4 hours after applying to ensure longer lasting results.

Application Tips With Glue Tabs: If you have flat nails, where you can see more than a millimeter or two of space between your nail and the press on, apply a pyramid stack of two tabs on top of each other (top smaller than bottom). This will help fill the gap so that there is a better adhesion. I find it easier to apply by using my non-dominant and to apply the tips to my dominant hand first. Our non-dominant hand can be clumsy and if press-ons are already on that hand, it will make applying to the dominant hand that much more difficult.
